This picture shows my Great Grand Parents, Charles Fredrick Wale and his wife Anne, standing outside their home, Holly Tree Cottage, in Cock Lane Bradfield. I never new them beacuse they died before I was born!!
Charles was the first Wale to come to Bradfield, bringing his wife and seven children from East Garsdon, just west of Newbury, in the early 1900's.
He got a job on Dr Watney's estate, and lived at Slade Gate. Later they moved to Buckhold, next to the church, where Anne Wale tolled the bell each Sunday for 30 years!!
Later they moved to Cock lane Bradfield, where they ended their days.
Their second son Osbert Wale was my Grandad, who married Anne Millson. They had six children, my father Gilbert, being the youngest.
My father married Phyllis Millson. My parents were second cousins, so I have the same Great Grand Father on the Millson side!!
We are now the only Wale family living in Bradfield!!
So far, I have traced the Wale family back to 1777 in East Garston, and the Millson family back to 1802 in Bucklebury.
